Primary school staff delivering food boxes to children
BBC Radio Cornwall
Staff at a primary school in west Cornwall have been describing going above and beyond to provide support to vulnerable families in the area during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Staff at Pendeen Primary School, including the head teacher, have been delivering food boxes to children every day, and dropping them on doorsteps to make sure those entitled to free school meals have had enough fresh food.
Thirty-five food boxes are delivered to vulnerable families in the community three or four times a week, containing products from the local farm, Pendeen Church and the school's dinner ladies.
We wanted to make sure that all our children and all our families had enough food - it's as simple as that, that was our first priority. Once we'd got all those things in place, it was about safeguarding and staff ringing all of our families at least once a week, so children had that contact with people they know."
